Thirty three years ago I felt our FACF was a quintessential organization because it was established as the first 501c Foundation to grant scholarships and support programs for a public high school, namely Farrington High School in Hawaii. Over time we shared our successes, encouraged and literally helped other interested public high schools form Foundations of their own. Now FACF is not so quintessential anymore.

But wait! Your Board of Directors have made us quintessence again. In what way you ask? The Directors decided we need to grant more vocational scholarships. Recently we kept our promise by granting 23 scholarships for students to follow their dreams at community colleges. These scholarships added to the other 38 made a record breaking total of 61 granted this year. We are told that the economy is in a recession, but it appears our Foundation endears advanced education no matter what. Generous donations by Joanne Kim (community), Wally Tsuha ’61, Michael Gangloff ’91 and Four Leaf Japan Company (community) placed our FACF in a very stable position and definitely made these 61 scholarships possible. The total value: $120,000.

We continued to support the school's various programs this school year which amounted to $78,000. The progress has been a joy to behold before our very eyes. May we continue to keep education in front of the line. Your support continues to empower your Board of Directors to fill the many needs for various scholarships and programs at Farrington High School. You count big and even bigger during these kinds of times.

M.L. Boren said, "You should have education enough so that you won't have to look up to people; and then more education so that you will be wise enough not to look down on people."

Thanks for helping 61 graduates this year receive more education for their lifetime dreams.

Sincerely,
David Jeong, '53
